Referrals are the lifeblood of a therapy practice, particularly one which is private-pay. Resources such as LinkedIn and YouTube allow us to expand our reach like no other networking efforts.
Let's use the example of a therapist specializing in Somatic Experiencing: He or she is likely to gain referrals from those professionals in pain management where the physical aspect of the client's pain is the focus of treatment. She then is able to offer her services as an adjunct and focus on the emotional aspects and helping the client cope as best as possible.
Connecting with professionals such as physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, etc. who welcome the opportunity to connect is nearly impossible given busy schedules, however, on platforms such as LinkedIn, your connections are not only of interest, but welcome!
A starting goal that I set with my clients is an easy one: A core of ten (10) deep referral sources who in turn refer ten (10) clients who in turn schedule 20 sessions: A worthy, attainable goal that can significantly increase your income.
